Here is my review of the Gig in Montreal. I found it a very nice concert, good sound, and Mark was in shape. The great moments were: Why Aye Man: I think it is a great intro song What It is even though I prefer the 2001 version Sultans of swing great as usual Song for Sonny Liston, this song is incredible in its live version, very crisp and sounds great. All That Matters was fantastic, great for this type of concert halls, as guy says in his diary. Telegraph Road was awesome as usual and I especially liked the lighting used. To finish off a great concert Our Shangri-La, when MK started playing it I new it was the end of the concert, there was no need to play another song, it was just right "the end of the perfect day". Well not so perfect explained further. Another thing I liked very much is Matt Rollings' Accordeon, I think it added a lot to the songs, and MK's voice was much better than in 2001, it sounded different. The only thing that didn't make this the perfect day, was the Venue seating arrangement. Let me explain, I got the most expensive tickets (150CA$ 90€) in presale, and looked for the best places. I got places A1 and A3, which should have been in the front rows, near to the stage, but instead I was on the first balcony. Apparently the numbers are the same on each balcony, and on the floor. When I went to complain before the show started, that there was a mistake, they told me I had the best places, because down near the stage is always too loud, and you have to stretch your neck. Ya sure !!! I needed binoculars to see MK's fingers on the guitar, and of course I had none. And I did 1300km one way from Nova Scotia to see this concert. Luckily, once the show started around 20h45, all my anger disappeared, thanks to MK and the band. The concert ended at 23h00 after 2h15 minutes of great music. A incredible privilege to have witnessed such an unforgetable performance in Montréal. Beyond words! So grateful to Mark Knopfler, a musical genius of our time. God bless, for making this world a better one to live in, while "contaminating" our soul with pure joy!

I was looking forward to this gig for months and although I arrived late because of the heavy Montreal Jazz Fest traffic, as I entered the audatorium and heard the last part of Way Aye Man I knew that it was going to be a night to remember. Mark's and the bands exceptional playing was mesmerizing! Whether playing straight ahead rock numbers like Telegraph road or jazzier songs like Rudiger the band was brilliant. I have been a more recent fan of Mark's (post Dire Straits) and this was my first time hearing him live so I really appreciated the addition of so many songs from his solo offerings especially his last album such as All that Matters (just Mark and great playing by Richard on the National lap slide guitar), Song for Sonny (how does an upright bass, a small drum set and one guitar make a song rock and groove like that?), Boom like that (a solid rocker -great counter guitar Richard) and Back to Tupelo (nice upbeat version). Although the crowd was obviously not as animated as the one in Boston I think that Mark and the band appreciated the obvious tremendous enthusiasm in Montreal and recognized this by giving us a flawless two and a half hours of great playing. I would like to thank the band for rewarding the fantastic audience with the 4 song encore ending with Shangri-La (together with a starry sky backdrop!). Mark and the band delivered on all of the oldies - highlights for me were Sultan's (amazing guitar playing by Mark as the song reached break-neck speed), Bro's in Arms (wonderful atmospheric key-board and accordion Guy and Matt) and Philadelphia (Danny, nice brushes!). As the previous reviewer noted there were a couple of minor PA sound issues but considering that Place des Arts was designed for classical concerts the sound (and lighting) was magical. Mark, Guy, Danny, Glenn, Matt and Richard thank you for making this a summer to remember. I know that you all must be beat after so many months on the road so I wish you a successful rest-of-tour and some serious relaxation afterwards......before the next new album!

I just came back from this super show. Excellent from the opening of <<Why Aye Man>> to the final encore of <<Shangri-la>>.The sound was very good and had great dynamics. I was seated on the balcony, first raw. The only minor bug is sometime, we loose the Mark voice at the beginning of some phrases and I would like to heard Richard guitar with a little more power on the mixing board. The Glen electric bass and Danny bass drum have tendency to sound boomy!!!.Maybe, its the accoustic of this place and where I was seated???. The band is like Mark.GREAT. I also like the Richard lead at the end of one song when Mark switching guitar. Richard is a great guitar player and he is a real showman while playing!!!. Sultans of swing is just fabulous.More Mark play it,, more better this song is. .And Rudiger is outstanding. In fact, its the better night I had since a lots of years. The peoples there had really enjoy this show. And, as a super bonus, I get an autograph signed by Mark and I have say hello to all the band members except, I don`t see Richard?? when they came in. Maybe, I was too cencentrated on Mark???. Please, come back to Montreal on the next tour. You make my life so happy. All the best to Mark Knopfler and his band for the rest of this tour.
